As a catalyst for innovation, BioscienceLA seeks to enable diversity, amplify science, and accelerate collaboration. The BioFutures Program was a competitive program that ran from 2021 to 2023 to connect students from historically under-represented backgrounds with subsidized internships and career development programming.

This program is no longer accepting applications.

Interns gained further insight into the LA life science ecosystem through:

  • paid internships at Los Angeles biotech, medtech, and digital health companies in both technical and non-technical roles, subsidized by BioscienceLA

  • mentorship opportunities with individuals from organizations like BCLA and Women in Bio

  • networking events held both virtually and in-person at BioscienceLA’s Collaboration Hub in Culver City with ecosystem leaders and program alumni

  • an alumni program to stay involved and connected to the ecosystem and each other

2021-2023 in numbers:

  • 100+ internships funded by BioscienceLA (thanks to LA County Second District)

  • 8 full-time job offers to students at the end of their internship

  • 300+ students in the database actively seeking internships

  • 150+ companies looking/hosting interns

“BioFutures interns served as an immediate and positive asset to the scientific progress, the lab organization, and hands-on experiments.”

We expect to have a journal article accepted from our interns’ work, which will permanently cement their impact on our company.

"It is incredible to see what they have been able to accomplish and how they conduct themselves in a professional manner while also proving to be exceptional at what they do in the lab.”
