Get to Know the New Executive Director of Biocom’s Los Angeles Office, Stephanie Hsieh

In the October 2, 2020 BioCommunique Article, Biocom introduced its readers to the new Executive Director of Biocom’s Los Angeles office, Stephanie Hsieh.

You may have known Stephanie as the CEO of Meditope, an early-stage biotech company based in Pasadena. What you may not know about Stephanie is that she brings to Biocom more than 25 years of experience within the biotech and biopharma industries and has a proven track record of leading cross-functional teams to develop and execute business and new product strategies by leveraging her deep knowledge of patent law and the regulatory landscape.

“Truly, the most the most exciting aspect to me [in her new role as Executive Director] is building this community in LA,” Hsieh says. “There are so many bright minds in life sciences here, doing tremendous work as they contribute to LA’s innovation scene, and there’s also a diversity and vibrancy to our region that you’ll only find in LA.”

Hsieh continues, “my vision is for LA to be a premier life science hub. LA may have similarities to the life science markets in San Diego and the Bay Area, but its unique qualities make it special and separate it into a league of its own. The richness and depth of Los Angeles’ legacy in other industries, the rise in digital health disruptors and the companies mixing new technologies with biotech all contribute to the vibrancy of the ecosystem here.”

When asked about LA’s uniqueness and its position to become the state’s next life science hub, Hsieh states, “Los Angeles’ life science sector differs vastly from the dense cluster in San Diego and the distinct clusters seen throughout the Bay Area. Here, there are several smaller clusters that exist within the collaborative community. Between the prestigious research institutions, the engineering history and even the Hollywood history, LA really is one-of-a-kind. It all starts with building the community and bringing companies together that are at the intersection of different disciplines to innovate on a completely new level and ultimately provide enhanced patient care.”

BioscienceLA welcomes Stephanie to Biocom and we look forward to working together to advance the life sciences industry, community and impact in the LA region!
