VC Highlight: Bonfire Ventures

Bonfire Ventures, a venture capital investment firm headquartered in Santa Monica, invests in information technology and software based companies. Founded in 2005 by Jim Andelman and Mark Millen, Bonfire Ventures has invested in Los Angeles-based health startups mPulse, Saferide, and Silversheet.

On September 14, 2020, Bonfire Ventures announced the hiring of Jennifer Richard as principal.

“LA is my home; but more than that, I believe that it’s perfectly poised to rival Silicon Valley,” Richard said in her blog post announcing she’s joining Bonefire. “I believe that LA has all the attributes necessary to become HQ for tech’s next unicorns (lifestyle, talent, cost of living, access to capital, etc). And for this reason, my focus has always been on SoCal tech.”

Richard's previous experience includes 3 years at CAA, 4 years at e-commerce startups in operational roles with increasing responsibility, and 2 years in venture capital.

“It feels serendipitous to join a fund that’s so perfectly aligned with this [Southern California] thesis,” Richard says. “In fact, 65% of the companies in Bonfire’s most recent fund are SoCal-based.”
