Nixon Peabody selects Seth Levy to lead nationally recognized Intellectual Property practice

Los Angeles, CA. Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to announce that Seth Levy has been appointed to lead the global law firm’s Intellectual Property practice, which includes IP litigation, patents, trademarks and copyrights, trade secrets, and technology transfer and licensing, as well as a team dedicated to Section 337 proceedings before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

Seth, who joined the firm as a partner in 2012, is also co-chair of Nixon Peabody’s Life Sciences practice and previously served as managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office. He focuses his practice on intellectual property protection, licensing, strategy, disputes, and research transactions and operations, particularly in life sciences and healthcare.

“I feel incredibly honored to lead this practice, and I’m proud of the breadth of our group’s capabilities,” said Seth. “We guide clients through the full IP lifecycle—from mining an organization’s research and development activities to capture and protect intellectual property, to supporting the commercialization and branding of those assets, and enforcing intellectual property rights and defending against competitors.”

Seth handles a range of technology and clinical research matters and has particular experience advising technology transfer programs at academic and healthcare institutions. He also acts as outside general counsel to technology-driven companies.

“Based on my years working with Seth, I know him to be an innovative, strategic, and thoughtful leader,” said Anthony Barron, leader of Nixon Peabody’s Litigation Department. “We have a top-flight Intellectual Property practice, and I know Seth will collaborate with our talented team to find new and creative ways to deliver impactful results for clients.”

Seth assumes leadership of the Intellectual Property practice from Jeffrey Costellia and Jason Kravitz, who served as co-leaders for several years and maintain their active practices with the firm. In addition, Jason now leads Nixon Peabody’s Privacy & Technology practice and Jeff chairs the firm’s Global Strategies Committee.

Seth earned his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School and his B.S. from Cornell University in Agricultural & Biological Engineering, cum laude. He is regularly ranked by industry publications as a leader in the IP field. Seth sits on the board for both the It Gets Better Project and the Better Together Animal Alliance.
